Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video streaming service that gives you access to millions of songs and other content from artists all over the world.

Problem Statement

The goal of this project was for us as students to learn more about designing a web page, and the difference between UX and UI.But the end of the project we were expected to find some solution for daily users problems such as hard navigation in the page or just a bad setup for the content.

So what’s UX and UI

UX is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. This involves the design of the entire process of acquiring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability and function.

And UI is anything a user may interact with to use a digital product or service. This includes everything from screens and touchscreens, keyboards, sounds, and even lights. To understand the evolution of UI, however, it’s helpful to learn a bit more about its history and how it has evolved into best practices and a profession.

User & Audience

Our persona is Alex, he is a student at Seattle University a dorm room with his room-mate. At night, he usually studies during 3 hours on average, but he finds that he lacks focus when his room-mate is here.He recently acquired noise-canceling headphones as recommended by a friend, but,as he loves music, his attention tends to shift to the lyrics. After looking for non-lyrics songs, he found a few but they were too mellow and he began to feel sad.

Roles & Responsibilities

We are a team of two, Youssef Sahli and Yosri Bouabid, our job was focused on the user perspective, so we basically have to study how the user interact with the interface of the app and learn what are the difficulties for navigation to fix them and improve the app for better experience.

Scope & Constraints

My team didn't face any difficulties making this project.

Process & What You Did

What happened

So Alex was trying to find something to listen while studding, first problem was that he was hesitating to click on the browse button because because of it’s bad position.

And because he has a type in mind, he tried to search for it “electro focus”

But he couldn’t find what he was looking for “Playlist”, he was only able to find the “song” and “Albums” sections. So our idea was to make it as tab at the top of the page to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

Also making it so that all the songs are loaded the more he scrolls down and remove “see all “ button to minimize the effort.

Also an easy way to save music to the playlist will be a good option, so that when ever the users lessening to a music he liked he could add it to playlist he already created or just create a new one .

Some other solution can be in improving the search experience by adding a filter option to the search, so it can have a more in depth of what the user want as type, or maybe he just forgot the signer name so the filter can help him narrow the options.

Prototype

So for the final result we made an interactive in Figma:

figma: (https://www.figma.com/file/ucrEFEf9uGR2drp2ptjinw/Spotify-(Copy)?node-id=0%3A1)

Validation

So for validating our idea we proposed the prototype to multiple coworkers of us to have a simulation for a real life scenario, and we well be discussing each candidate.

1- The first candidate fond the tabs idea useful in some situation, and liked the search filter when you some thing specific in mind.

2- The second candidate liked the search design where is every thing is clear.

3- The third candidate suggested the tabs to be small just like the original to make it more appealing.

4- The fourth suggested to make the search more specific, like the most closest to the search is shown first then the playlist related to that song, then any song related to the artist him self in other albums.

5- Liked the search experience, and wanted to make the “browser ” button easier to find.

Conclusion

Outcomes and Results

We solved some of the problem that Alex faced when interacting with the UX of Spotify.

We learned the designer roles in creating a web page, and the existing of more than one designer aspects, and the importance of this job, because without a design there will be no satisfied users to use the page.
